Yesterday I heard a tree.

Yesterday I heard a tree,

Are you here to,
Dig me up,
Sweet Devil brother?
Eat my fruits,
And pierce my petals?

Take our mother’s soil,
Loot her precious oil,
Poison her waters,
Cease her winds,
And rip out her rare metals?

Today the tree narrated,

Hello dear brother,
Doubtless, You are the cleverest,
Yet please heed what I say.

You have evolved a hunger,
You have become a killer,
Earth has become “not enough”,
And every being is dying,
While your mind just says MORE!

Soon the more will be NO MORE~
Decide whether you will,
NO MORE harm our mother,
Or if you will live NO MORE!
I will wait until tomorrow for your response.

I replied,

Tomorrow is far away,
Today and now is when,
I must make this choice!
NO MORE killing the earth!

Bit by bit I will learn,
I will help, I will teach.
We can save everything
!

The tree chuckled,

Don’t be foolish human,
You have done too much harm,
There is no way to make everything better,
You can but find a solution for survival!

  8. Yesterday I heard on the news that pollution from the 1970s is causing dead zones in the oceans where no sea life can survivei. Worse yet, carbon emissions have doubled since then that will cause even more dead zones over the next fifty years. Scientists are working on ways to mitigate the problem. Of course, we need to develop clean energy to prevent further damage.

Your poem is so sadly true, Riya. Beautifully expressed! ❤ All the best!
