Ansh was a good friend of mine, but I still had her swear something to me.
After we settled into the taxi, I asked her, “Hey Ansh , promise me, you will not leave me alone at the party. Don’t go roaming in the crowd without me.”
“Ahh, I would never do that Pari.” she winked at me.
“Ughh Ansh! Seriously?? Who is it this time? Aakash? Raghav? Naaii? Sam?!” I ask, instantly regretting getting into the taxi.
Ansh always does this. One or the other of her boy/girl friends just “accidentally” bump into us, and an hour later, I find myself alone, sitting by a window, with an unsipped drink in my hand, watching the clock slowly tick to 9, our curfew.
“Surprise, surprise.” another wink.
“Hmmm” I sigh. By now even you guys might have noticed, my sigh rates dramatically increase around Anshita.
“Wait! Stop the car! Ruko!”
“What? Why Pari? If it its about the party-
“No, not that, didn’t you hear it?”
The driver looked back and said: “Madam kya hua?” (what happened, mam)
“Signal pass kiya aapne.. seeti sunai nhi di aapko?”(We just passed a signal, I think we ran the red. Didn’t you hear the whistle??)
“What whistle, Pari?” butted ansh in.
“Nahi didi, koi police nhi the chowk pe” (No sister, there were no policemen at the signal.”)
“Hmmm, thik hai.. koi baat nhi”( Hmmm, its ok.. nevermind)
Ansh was looking at me, wide eyes, “Are you ok, Pari? Don’t tell me you’re high even before the party began!”
“Haha, very funny, I would never wanna crash the party before you” I smile. “Look, its the new theater that opened this week” I call out to distract Ansh. And we travelled the rest of the ride, silent.
I assess the venue.. it was extravagant, a simple elegant modern villa, and a fabulous garden strung up with lights for the party. It was like a celebs house and a party for their famous friends.
“Where have you brought us Ansh?”
“I know.. its beautiful right??”
“Yeah.. except for one thing.. too many mosquitoes here.. and bees too!”
She raised her eye and asked, “There are no bees here, are you ok? Can you hear buzzing?”
“No, its nothing I guess.”
With a nervous glance at the house she said, “Its not nothing. You are hearing things, crickets, whistles and now bees! My nani says these things can be warnings from the “
“Dude that’s bs. And your nani should’ve kept her stereotypical nonsense to herself.”
“Hmmm ok.. I won’t force anything on you.. But for me, please only stay inside.. and don’t ruin my night anymore.” and she strutted towards the house.
“I didn’t even want to come. You dragged me here.” I mouthed as I followed her in.
“I heard that, jerk!” Huh.. the expected response.
Next chapter.. soon.. we all hope🙂🙃
